Create A Smart Competitor Analysis For Your Start-Up Business

When planning a marketing strategy for your website it is fundamental to carry out initial competitor analysis to prepare your business for the market. Similarly to any offline promotion, you must conduct primary research into your competitor's offering to understand what you are competing against.

You can easily get around this by performing a proper analysis of your competitors before entering into the business arena. This way, if there is still competition out there, you'll know exactly how and why to tweak your ideas so that you find an untapped niche market. In terms of the website, examining fellow competitors will highlight the amount and type of traffic you should be looking to aim for, using their statistics to measure the needs of the consumers and their search volumes.

Any competitor analysis you do will start and end with your willingness to do some research. This isn't something you want to outsource or trust to instinct. You need to become part of the market and find out exactly what's going on around every corner. If you miss something or choose to take something lightly, it could easily come back and bite you.

The most important thing to look at is the backlinks and anchor text. In a perfect world, to beat out the competition all you would need to do is obtain a backlink from each site your competitor has a backlink from and then just add more backlinks. But it is impossible to see all of the competitions links in your SEO competitor analysis. So just get as many of your competitors links as you can, then use the backlinking strategies we are going to talk about as we continue with this series and with time you should outrank the competition.

The benefits of conducting competitor analysis are clear, as you can identify who you are competing against which allows you to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your online proposition. Consequently you will then be able to identify the specific actions needed to be taken in order to improve your competitive position within the market.
