Hello readers, my name is Richard and I wanted to introduce to you today my website, VietnamWarBooks.net. I have built this website especially for those with an interest in the Vietnam war and provided book reviews of the very best works to have emerged from the conflict. You might be asking why it is that I've made this website? To tell the truth I am a massive fan of Vietnam War history, having studied it in university and read loads of books and seen all the big movies. I had a look around to see if anybody else had a decent website devoted to Vietnam book reviews and I couldn't really find anything so I decided to build one which was simple, easy-to-use and only with the best reviews.
Let me explain how I've got my website organised. I'm guessing that people who are interested in the Vietnam War know what they want to read about - some people are looking for straight first-person accounts, some people are looking for history texts, some people want to read about the special forces, others about airborne. I tried to look around at the existing websites on Vietnam books and couldn't find one that really laid out the information in a simple accessible style, so that has been my focus at VietnamWarBooks.net.
Like I said, I've got all of the information and categories organised so that people should be able to choose which kind of book they want and navigate straight to it. For instance my sniper section discusses some fantastic works including Dear Mom: A Sniper's Vietnam by Joseph T Ward and Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills, which are both unbelievably riveting accounts of what it was like for an active sniper in the jungles of Vietnam. For those people more interested in the airborne war, I've got a section devoted to that and I've got reviews of some fantastic books including the famous Chickenhawk, written by the veteran helicopter pilot Robert Mason.
As well as a section on snipers, I've also got a section on special forces which provide some book reviews of some really exceptional works. One of these is Blackjack 34 by James Donahue which describes an elite unit of special forces soldiers operating behind enemy lines, where they are discovered by the enemy and things go horribly wrong. I've also got sections entitled true stories which cover some really interesting backgrounds to the Vietnam War and also a section which I've called reportage. Here you will find reviews of some of the best works written by journalists to come out of the conflict including Michael Herr's Dispatches, which could be the best book to come out of Vietnam.
As a companion piece to the genres, I've also written a little piece dealing with the history of the Vietnam conflict, from 1954 until 1975. This deals with the main events and the facts from the conflict so people can make themselves familiar with the history of Vietnam. So, come along and visit my website and here you'll find books dealing with unbelievable heroism, amazing facts, action, adventure and all of the confusion and stunning landscapes of Vietnam. Hopefully you'll be able to find just the book you're after and get a truly entertaining and educational read for yourself.
