Four Ways To Get Ready For Public Speaking

By Arlene Case

Which would you choose, speaking in front of a crowd that will get bored with you or gargling with Drano? As expected, many would choose the Drano.

Many people have public speaking as their number one fear. You feel too anxious, you're sweating so much, your knees, hands, and voice are shaking, and your brains seems to stop working. Why is that? Because you are scared to death.

Here are some tips that could help you triumph over public speaking.

Picture yourself speaking in front of a crowd. Go ahead picture yourself standing in front of all these people saying what it is you are going to be talking about. Do it from the beginning until the end. Begin with walking up to the microphone or podium, all the way thru your speech, and then finally wrapping it up to a successful outcome.

Always practice. You should try delivering your speech again and again. Now, do the same thing to a real live person (just make sure they will be honest with you about your presentation). Remember, repetition is the mother of all skill. This statement couldn't be truer. You can just about overcome any fear you have by doing it over and over again. Take sports, for example. These professional athletes never miss a shot. This is mainly because they practice a lot. This applies to public speaking, too.

Get your camcorder and tape yourself speaking to an imaginary audience. This is a good way to see and hear how you will appear and sound to an audience.

Relax. You should relax before you give your presentation. Take several slow deep breaths and recall that the audience is here to listen to your presentation. They don't know (or really care) what your personal life is like. They aren't interested in your personal life.

If you are well-prepared, you won't feel quite as nervous, and you'll be more confident. After you end your speech, Drano will never look the same way to you again.
