How Leadership Orators Could Go About Discussing The Qualities Needed

By Briana Jake Woodward

When it comes to the selection off an orator at a function, the choice seems to be almost overwhelming. There are so many individuals, each with a specific message and it is not always easy to decide upon the specific topic that will transform an ordinary event into a memorable one. Leadership speakers have been a firm favorite on the circuit for some time.

There are many aspects that are deemed important when it comes to the development of leadership speakers. Respect must surely rank at the top of the list. A good leader always knows that he is part of a team and unless there is respectful relationship between the leader and the other members of the team, it would be very difficult indeed to agree on and achieve common goals.

The ability to yield leadership to another person, depending upon the situation is of paramount importance. Nobody can lead in every possible situation. A church minister, for example, needs to yield his leadership of his flock to the firemen that attend to a fire at the church. The ability to accept a new leader and to submit to the decisions of that leader is therefore a primary quality of a good leader.

Decisiveness is another quality that distinguishes those that aim to lead. Too many people in authority are dithering, putting off the moment when they have to make a decision because they are too scared to expose themselves to criticism or censure. Good leaders take advice, weigh all the possible consequences and make a decision. The best possible situation, of course, is when a decision can be reached on a consensus basis.

Empathy and sympathy is not the same thing. Leaders cannot function if they are driven by pure sympathy, but they have to understand the needs and desires of their fellow team members. They need to be able to provide support and they have to be able to develop strategies in which individual strengths and weaknesses are accounted for without punishing any individual.

Leaders are servants, not rulers. This must be the underlying rule for anybody that assumes a role where they provide direction to others. This means that they must display humility. Humility does not mean that an individual must ingratiate himself with others, but rather that he understand the importance of the role that he is to play in directing others without causing them distress or catastrophe.

Communication is all important. It is vital that everybody knows exactly what is going on, why it is so, and the reasons behind the decisions of the executive. This is the only way in which to create unity and a common purpose. In this day and age, there is no excuse for not being able to communicate to all and sundry. The choices are staggering and there should be a strategy to convey information efficiently.

Truly great leadership speakers will remind their audiences that no man is an island. Everybody deserves a hearing and all men are equal. Leadership has very little to do with management and the issuing of orders. Rather, it has to do with service and a willingness to create a better world and environment for all members of the team. Regardless of how large or small the team may happen to be.
