The French language is estimated as having between 70 and 110 million native speakers and is the second most studied foreign language in the world. French is not only spoken in Europe, but also in Canada and by millions of people in a number of African countries. French is also one of the three working languages of the European Commission, and one of the most popular working languages for many international organizations. It is for these reasons that French translation plays such a large role in the translation industry.

A French translation should have an attractive appearance, original, and written as if it's a source text. Working with a translation that the target culture can tell is a translation just isn't appropriate in a business with such high competition. The translator hence needs to have an in depth understanding of both French along with their other working dialects as a way to make a translation that reads as if it's an authentic piece of text. This can simply be attained by utilizing a seasoned and experienced translator.

What's also essential to bear in mind is that the French spoken in France is not the same as the French spoken in Mauritius, and that the French spoken in Mauritius is different as the French spoken in Quebec. Languages are living things which are constantly evolving, and it's essential for a successful translator to remain well-informed on any changes to their working languages.

The ability to take the meaning of a piece of source text and translate that essence into French is an essential skill for a French translator. A key thing to look out for when choosing a language services provider is whether their translators are living within their own native culture. Working in-country means that the translators are living within the culture of their working language, ensuring that all terminology is up-to-date, and that their work is of the highest possible quality. It's also vitally important for language services providers to work with fully qualified translators, who have been working in the industry for a long period of time. As we often find ourselves saying, it takes a lot more than knowing another language to succeed in the translation industry.
