Writing The Perfect Resume Without Mistakes

By Amy Norman

Anybody who wants to get a job would be behooved to write an effective and efficient resume and/or curriculum vitae. The job market, after all, is rife with competition. When sorting through applicants, employers always want somebody who has a good work ethic, good working skills and a positive, rosy outlook towards his/her job responsibilities. The resume should reflect the attitude and details of education, age, qualification, experience etc. One should write his or her resume and tailor-fit it to the job he/she is applying for. Gone are the days where one resume was used for all the jobs. Also, a resume must definitely have that catchy vibe towards it, because again, competition can be very tough with scores of resumes to review. It is important that the resume should be free from any common mistakes.

What is an effective resume?

An effective resume should contain basic sections, complete and powerful contact information, headline of what is being offered by the employee to the employer, summary of skills - highlighting relevant skills will be an added advantage, professional experience which has to be relevant and last but not the least educational qualification- details of grades, year of passing etc. An effective resume will be free from grammatical and spelling mistakes. One must prove that he or she is grammatically competent. Hence, it is very important to proof-read more than twice to avoid any mistakes in the resume.

What are the things to avoid on a resume?

One mistake you would not want to make when writing a resume is adding extraneous details like the name of your spouse, number of offspring, everyday hobbies - this is superfluous to just about any job opening, such as accountancy, to use a common example.

One would want to exercise description when using fancy font varieties. It might be easier to read on the computer of the person writing the resume, but not necessarily it can be readable in the employer's computer. If the font is not found in the computer it will show bizarre information.

Also, you do not want to make the resume look like an actual job application by leaving in equally extraneous information such as the name of each previous employer's point person, their contact details and why you left such a job.

Content is king when creating a resume - pith and substance is valued over lengthy, albeit vacuous resumes. Avoid looking biggety by using "I", "me" and other first-person pronouns in your resume.

Lastly, personalize the addressing of your resume, and do not send to one email alone when sending to multiple recruiters.
